Visually appealing, simple, accurate

I’m new to Forecast Bar and was so impressed I bought the iOS version. It’s clean, simple, accurate and unobtrusive. Has similar elements to Dark Sky but not the clutter of so many other apps. Good job.

Great!

I love this app and when I had a question the support staff got back to me increbibly quickly. And now I’m thrilled to have their app on my iPhone.

Intuitive, accurate, and has a pleasing interface

I like to have my weather app reside in the menu bar. Forecast Bar is the finest app I’ve used and I’ve tried about a dozen. It’s intuitive, accurate, and has a pleasing interface. I like the ease of switching between cities, the availability of data and its placement. I purchased the IOS version also for my iPhone and iPad. Highly recommended by this geek.

Wrong Answer!

Stuck one day behind!! Canʻt find anyway to actually update to show TODAY!!!

Accurate, simple and good on the eye

I’m using a number of products produced by Forecast.IO. I like them all, they are intuitive. I use their forecast feed for a small, rural community website and the accuracy is very good. All are simple and easy on the eye. Thanks!

Nice little weather app

2.2 This latest update replaces the really nice, globe based radar view from Forecast.io with a boring run-of-the-mill radar view from some outfit called Aeris. The developers say the former is being “deprecated” even though it’s clearly still available in the Dark Sky iOS app. It was a perfect, 5 star app before. This unwelcome change has cost them a star. 2.0 The issue I mentioned below with the opaque white background has been resolved. I literally have no complaints with this app whatsoever. It’s the best weather app on the Mac hands down! 1.5.2 The issue I mentioned below with the odd locations appearing out of nowhere has since been resolved. Additionally, the ability the remove locations has been significantly enhanced. The app just keeps improving! But the latest small glitch I’ve noticed is that when you turn the background image completely off it is replaced by an opaque WHITE background whereas previously it would have the same TRANSLUCENT background as the rest of the window. It just looks weird and out of place. That being said, I am running the El Capitan public beta so that could possibly be the source of the issue. Does anyone running Yosemite see this as well? 1.3 Radar images! This is bar none the BEST weather app on the Mac. We now essentially have a Mac version of the awesome iOS app Dark Sky! The only thing missing in that regard is the ability to "spin the globe” when viewing the radar map. One small glitch … I have 2 locations that appeared out of nowhere as LAT/LONG coordinates. Somewhere in the middle of China. For some reason I can’t seem to remove them. Other than that this app is just about PERFECT. 1.2: All the issues I identified below have been resolved. The one-time charge for more frequent updates was a bit more expensive than I anticipated, but these guys are running a business so I get it. This has definitely earned a spot in my menu bar. Great app! 1.0: Works as advertised. Great UI design. Love the animations. But it could use some improvements: 1. Multiple city support is a MUST. Especially for 5 bucks. 2. The font size needs to match the standard Apple menu items. Right now it is noticeably smaller and looks out of place. 3. Weather can change quickly. A “hyper local” weather certainly needs automatic update frequencies of less than 1 hour. 15 minutes minimum in my view.

Fantastic, but one wish

The only thing I miss is an easy way to switch between ºC and ºF. Having to use the preferences each time isn’t ideal. Not sure how many would need such a thing, but in my European–American household, one of us prefers ºF, whereas the other onlyunderstands ºC.

Handy, useful weather app - now my goto for first look

This new version seems stable - prior crashed often on OS X. Have both OS X and iOS versions running. Hand for quick reference. Interchange with support was very good - quick knowledgable responses. Recommended.

Need to improve radar image

Nearly great weather app with a very exact forecast, it is now using a new radar image which is terrible, the developers need to improve the radar image or switch to another source!!!!!

tis good

tells me the weather.

Great weather app, but still needs lightning display

I’m enjoying Forecast Bar on my Mac and it has become my go-to for weather. I’d like to see one addition to this app which would make it a 5 star app. I live in Florida, the lightning capital of the world. There needs to be something like Spark in Weather Bug that displays lightning activity. That’s critical information here in the South. Otherwise, a very clear display of essential information presented in a straightforward, but technically complete manner. Well worth the price, but as I said, it needs lightning information.

Love this….so much info in such a small package!

Everything in the menu bar. Including sunrise and set times…so handy. Thanks very much!

My favorite weather app

This is a really nice app and it’s constantly being updated, which I like. I use it in conjunction with its iOS counterpart and I appreciate having the same reliable forecast and interface on all my devices - that’s not something that most weather apps have, including Apple’s own apps. The forecast is always spot on for where I live and having the iCloud integration just makes everything feel more closely integrated. I actually like the new radar better than forecast.io’s old radar - I think it’s easier to read, and you can actually zoom in as little or as much as you want, unlike the old version. They went from having no apps to having one for OS X, iOS and watchOS in just a matter of months, it seems. Really awesome. Would love to see it on tvOS at some point, actually!! Update: like, 2 days after I posted this review, what do I find in my Apple TV app store but a brand new Forecast Bar app. :) Seriously, these developers are so fast it’s crazy. This whole suite of apps is really what Apple’s own stock weather apps should have been but never were. Can’t wait to see what the devs have planned in the future!

Continues to update, doesnt work on computer

Hi I purchased the app for my macbook pro. I am unable to get past the “updating” on the screen. I have uninstalled, deleted and reinstalled without any success. I was unable to find an email for support. I would sure appreciate any help. The ios version works great on my phone/ipad Thank you

Getting Ad’s even thou I paid

Paid for faster updater, and got a pop-up ad for other versions of the app. If I paid for your product why am I seeing an ad for it when the app launches? Very annoying!

Good but could be better

This is a nice app if you like to geek out on weather but the layout leaves a bit to be desired. I like the fact that it lives in the menu bar and can give you alerts about severe weather/floods/etc. It also has an animated radar map integrated which is a must in my opinion. The bad comes in that the radar map takes several clicks to get to and to get animated. It would be nice if the radar map could be put into the map drop down window and animated by default so you could get a quick view of incoming storms/rain. Additional the when theres a warning for your area it should be shown in the menu bar so you can know aboutg it without having to click the dropdown button. Another downside is that while there are many features to this app there isnt much in the way of customization. There is some but like the issue with radar there needs to be more in the way of pereferences / options. Theres also the fact that getting weather updates any faster than once per hour costs an extra $9 a goes up depending on how fast you want them. Considering that theres tons of free apps out there that will tell you the weather in 1 minute increments this seems like a slap in the face after laying down real cash for this app. Give us every 30 minutes by default at the very least. 1 hour updates are pretty much useless when a tornado is coming your way.

My favorite by far!

I tested quite a few weather apps out there and this is the one I settled with. I wanted a clean user interface that would provide all the info I needed and this is app fit all my criteria. The weather forecast has been accurate, including the precipitation predictions and patterns. Really nice!

Hmmm...

Fell in love with Dark Skies for iOS originally then discovered this app from the team and loved it as well. Overall it’s a GREAT app on both OS X and iOS. However, one of the things I liked the most was the radar…so different from all the others and so visually striking and smoothly animated. NOT a fan of the replacement…looks like all the rest now. Worse, the OS X version doesn’t even support gestures for zoom…we’re using Apple hardware here guys, you should be supporting gestures out of the gate!

Excellent and Accurate Hyperlocal Weather Forecasts

A friend recommended this app to me. Like another reviewer I noticed wrote here, I too am a big fan of the Dark Sky app for iOS which uses Forecast.io weather data for accurate pinpoint local weather conditions and forecasts. I had wished I could get that app for OS X when I learned about this one from my friend. It’s wonderful and gives me the same useful weather info right from my menubar in OS X anytime I want to glance at it or drop it down for details. The app uses very little system resources when idle which is goodness. I check stuff that I allow to live in my menubar for this and it was not long ago I found a competing free app was utilizing a ridiculous amount of system resources for no justifiable reason. So you can rest assured this can be running all the time with no hit to your system performance. I like the customization options too. I also enjoy seeing the attractive picture at the top when I open to check the weather which is always some nice scene reflecting current conditions. That’s a nice little attractive touch. I think you can turn it off if you don’t like it but I wouldn’t want to do that myself. You can adjust its opacity too if you like. Anyway, this is much like Dark Sky which is a big compliment. I love it and will not be without it going forward. It’s really nicely done. I do have a couple other weather apps that provide me more detailed maps in one case for when I want that and another one just for fun that mocks me in Siri’s voice. If you are looking at weather apps, you probably know which one I just referred to. This is my go to app though for anytime checks of the weather and I am really glad to have it. It’s a bargain at its regular price too. I could live easily enough without the others but this one is a must have for me now. Don’t be scared off by the In-App purchases and worry they will greatly inflate the cost for this to be useful. I find that not to be true at all even though I purchased it thinking I would surely buy the lowest tier In-App purchase for more frequent updates. I haven’t bothered since buying this and it has not mattered in my own use at all. Out of the box here it updates hourly. More frequent updates are something they offer via In-App purchase simply because they have to pay Forecast.io every time the app accesses data from there. So they set the price they did which should meet most user’s needs just fine but they do provide options to purchase more frequent updates for those wanting or needing them. Normally, I just check the weather over coffee in the morning myself and might occasionally during the day as I notice outdoor conditions changing or I know a storm is coming from the earlier forecast or whatnot and I find it is just fine for this without needing to spend anything extra. So I wanted to be sure to point this out because I did hesistate a little when I first noticed the IAPs and wouldn’t want someone to miss out on this great app worrying it costs a lot more to be useful when it truly does not. If I need constant updates on the weather at some point chances are I should be watching it on television and battening down the hatches around here, etc. Fortunately, this app will let me know when I should probably be tuning in for live updates in advance of needing to. Five Star app all the way.

Great software! Excellent customer support!

This review is mostly focused on customer support. I found this app at the macworld.com site and thought I would give it a try. I installed it and yes I have found it to be the best weather app for a mac ever! Super convenient and accurate. I got the free version (1 hour updates) then decide it was so good that I purchased the 10 minute updates. I ran into a few problems when all of my computers wouldn’t restore for the 10 minute updates purchased. I contacted customer support and received almost instant replies to my support questions. Awesome customer support!
